Sears Holdings Corporation, headquartered in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, was an American holding company. It was formed after Kmart bought Sears in 2005. In 2015, it was the 20th largest retailer in the United States. On October 15, 2018, it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and sold its assets to ESL Investments in 2019. Sears Holdings Corporation was closed after the new owner transferred Sears assets to its newly established subsidiary Transform Holdco LLC. In the United States, Sears has over 1,900 stores.
