Yelp is a company that provides user-generated reviews of local businesses and services on its website and mobile apps. It also operates Yelp Reservations, a table reservation service. Yelp was founded in 2004 by former PayPal employees Russel Simmons and Jeremy Stoppelman. It grew in usage and raised several rounds of funding in the following years, reaching $30 million in revenue by 2010. That year, it also published 4.5 million crowd-sourced reviews. Yelp expanded throughout Europe and Asia from 2009 to 2012, during which time it unsuccessfully negotiated an acquisition by Google.
