FedEx Corporation, previously Federal Express Corporation and then FDX Corporation, is an American global conglomerate holding company based in Memphis, Tennessee, that specializes in transportation, e-commerce, and business services. The name "FedEx" is a syllabic abbreviation of Federal Express, the company's first air division, which was utilized from 1973 until 2000. FedEx Express, one of the first major shipping firms to provide overnight delivery as a trademark service, is the company's most well-known service today. Since then, FedEx has launched FedEx Ground, FedEx Office (formerly known as Kinko's), FedEx Supply Chain, FedEx Freight, and a variety of additional services through its different companies, all of which are intended to compete with UPS. FedEx is also one of the US government's main contractors, assisting in the transportation of some USPS packages through its FedEx SmartPost service. FedEx has acquired the naming rights to FedExField, home of the NFL's Washington Redskins, and FedExForum, home of the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies. FedEx's air shipping services have made Memphis International Airport, also known as the "Superhub," the world's busiest cargo airport by 2020, and Hong Kong; the world's second-busiest cargo airport behind Memphis.
