Walgreens is a large chain of drugstores in the United States, ranking second behind CVS Health. It offers a range of services including prescriptions, health and wellness items, health information, and photo services. It was founded in 1901 in Chicago, Illinois, and as of August 2019, had 9,277 locations across the country. Walgreens' headquarters is located in Deerfield, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. In 2014, the corporation decided to buy the remaining 55 percent of Alliance Boots, based in Switzerland, to create a global operation. Walgreens and Alliance Boots combined on December 31, 2014 to establish Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc., a new holding company. Walgreens was spun off as a subsidiary of the new company, which is headquartered in Deerfield and trades on the Nasdaq under the name WBA.
